Labor Doula Service

Labor Doula Service

If a doula were a drug, it would be unethical not to use it.
~ John H. Kennell, MD

From Wikipedia: A doula (pronounced “doó la”,[1] also known as a labour coach[2] and originating from the Ancient Greek word δούλη meaning female servant or slave[3]) is a nonmedical person who assists a woman before, during or after childbirth, as well as her partner and/or family by providing information, physical assistance and emotional support.[1] The provision of continuous support during labour by doulas (as well as nurses, family or friends) is associated with improved maternal and fetal health and a variety of other benefits.[1][4]
A variety of organizations offer certification and training to doulas, though there is no oversight to their practice and the title can be used by anyone.[5] In contrast to the goal of medical professionals (a safe childbirth), the goal of a doula is to ensure the mother feels safe and confident before, during and after delivery.[6] Doulas can be controversial within medical settings due to pressure on mothers to avoid medical interventions and pursue natural childbirth without an epidural or medically necessary caesarean sections.[7]

What families have shared about my services:

Kendra was with me for my homebirth vbac. She stayed with me all night. Things were fine & I didn’t really have need yet for a midwife being there, however I NEEDED labor support. My husband had been up since about 3 am for work, so once she came over around 9 pm she got me & her settled in & sent my husband to bed in the spare room. She was wonderful, staying with me & providing whatever support I needed, whenever I needed & offering suggestions of things that might help if what we were doing wasn’t working. She is a fantastic wealth of knowledge in ways to work through labor. At no point did I need her & have to look around to find her, she was always right there. Sitting behind me on the birth ball while I layed in the bed, she would read in between contractions as I was dozing in & out & not really wanting to talk. She was standing next to me in the kitchen as I was baking bread, always within an arms reach. She stayed with me for over 18 hours, never complaining or seeming impatient with my slow, yet extremely intense labor. I don’t know how I’ll do it without her when I will be across country with the next one… I would seriously look into the idea of flying her out there for a few weeks if I could. I never even realized she was taking pictures, as she was very unintrusive about it & loved that she personalized the disc with a picture of the family on the top of it. I also thought it was awesome that she was able to provide child birth prep classes as well as placenta encapsulation services. Through all the work I did with her we were truly able to get to know each other prior to the birth. That ‘being on the same page’ really made it so seemless & wonderful. I couldn’t have picked a better doula. She also did a great job of coaching my husband in assisting me. She really was labor support for the whole family, not just me.

My husband Dan and I first met Kendra when we took our child birth education classes with her. Kendra made my birth experience the great experience it was. My water had broke the day before….I had no contractions until about 5 hours before my son was born. My midwife thought I had all this time in the world b/c I was a first time mom. She thought I could go a few more days possibly!. When I called my midwife in the early morning telling her about the timing of my contractions she still acted like I had all this time! (She lives 45-60 minutes away.) She wasted 45 minutes with me on the phone trying to hear me through the contractions. I was doing fine. (I think I have a high pain tolerance). So she had no intentions on leaving anytime soon. We called Kendra and she came right away. She knew I was getting close. Kendra comforted me and timed the contractions so SHE could tell my midwife. My midwife was still hesitant! My son was born one hour later and my midwife barely made it! His head was crowning when she got here! Honestly I really didn’t care, b/c we had Kendra! BUT had Kendra not been here, our midwife definetly would not have been. Only b/c of Kendra and her experience and professionalism did my midwife get here. Kendra rocked the birth, she had everything under control, she knew where everything was, she was the calm my husband needed. Kendra being here allowed my husband to fill the birthing tub, which was my main want for the birth, therefore his main concern! Kendra was so caring and attentive. I love Kendra and would only have her as a doula in the future should I give birth again. I can’t say enough words to describe how she made my son’s birth so wonderful. Thank you Kendra.Thank you for being the calm. Thank you for being the ROCK. Thank you, Thank you..

One of the best decisions I made to assist me in the birth of my son was to hire Kendra as my doula. I met Kendra when I was seeking an instructor for Childbirth Education Classes. I was struck by her knowledge and kindness over the phone and my husband and I hired her as our instructor. We LOVED learning from Kendra. She provided us with helpful information and assisted me with making the decision to proceed with a homebirth. She gave me the name of a Midwife who has been ideal for me. After completing our Childbirth Education Classes, I decided to hire Kendra as my doula. I have never regretted this decision! She has been there for me 100% when I have questions or concerns and is always honoring and respectful in assisting me with making the decisions that are best for our son and me. Kendra provided extensive post partum doula services for me and continues to do so. She has been key in helping me to learn how to breastfeed our son. This was not an easy process for me to learn. I called Kendra several times a day for assistance and she visited me at my home on several occasions to help me. Thanks to Kendra and my Midwife, breastfeeding is now going well. Kendra has been available whenever I needed her and has taken it upon herself to coordinate and communicate on an ongoing basis with my Midwife. This communication with my Midwife has been essential and has facilitated excellent coordination of care. Kendra is an amazing person who will always go the extra mile to assist you in your birth and postpartum experience. I would give her the highest recommendation possible which to me is an A+.

My fee for labor doula service is $1000.00. Half due on registration and the other half due by week 37 of your pregnancy.
